A letter from Dulcie Holland

I found this today amongst my papers and thought it was such a lovely letter that I had to share it. It’s from the late Australian composer Dulcie Holland to me when I was in my second year of studying music at the University of Sydney. I had previously done a bit of private study in theory and composition with her as a secondary student. In the letter she refers to a tape recording of a piece (Drought for clarinet and piano).

What a lovely memory to share Jane!

I remember your going for lessons with Dulcie Holland at Northbridge, fabled scene of one of her piano pieces 🙂 The lessons were clearly precious to you as a schoolgirl x
